Announced at the SFContario 2 science fiction convention in Toronto last month, The Dragon and the Stars won the 2011 Aurora Award in the category of Best Related Work in English.  The Aurora is Canada's fan-voted national science fiction and fantasy prize.  A great big THANK YOU to the reading audience, the Canadian and international SF community, and those who made the book possible:  Wu Yan, Julie Czerneda, John Helfers, Sheila Gilbert, my co-editor Derwin Mak and (I can't say this enough) all the fantastic authors who contributed their wonderful stories.  Pictured above are Derwin, Tony Pi (author of the lead story "The Character of the Hound") and myself at the Aurora ceremony.  Xie xie!

The Dragon and the Stars is available on Amazon.ca.  Stories and excerpts can be read here, or view the press release.

Ian Sales has announced the table of contents for his upcoming anthology Rocket Science (Mutation Press, 2012), which will have 17 stories and five non-fiction articles including my essay "Making Mars a Nicer Place to Live".  The essay examines the science behind the terraforming of Mars as it is portrayed in science fiction, and is based in part on work funded by Maison D’Ailleurs and the OURS Foundation as part of the Innovative Technologies from Science Fiction (ITSF) project of the European Space Agency (ESA).
